BIRD LIFE

Africa is blessed with Bio-Diversity. In the Bluff Valley we are extremely blessed with the same.  The Upper end of the valley is a wetland area and has a great inner city hide form where to watch the aquatic birds.   Our shoreline is also inundated with seabirds and the area has a couple of registered birding spots

In the park itself we get over 100 species and if we include the wetland spots just 900m down the road it is well over 170.  We do bird counts every year and for those with even a small interest this is great venue

We have a wide range of birds that include;

- The seed eaters like White eye, mannequins, canaries, apalis etc.
- Insect eaters with paradise flycatchers and little bee eater my favorites
- Raptors like the Fish Eagle, Yellow billed kite, and sparrow hawks
- King fishers and woodpeckers
- Egyptian geese, herons, egrets

By just observing you are bound to watch a woodpecker feeding its young or see a duel between the male fly-catchers for space in a tree.

By Just listening you will hear a great variety of sounds and will get to hear when the males and females perform their mating duets. On another day you may hear other shrill squeaks which are a sure signal that the vervet monkeys are advancing through the trees.  Use this sound to be alerted that there will an confrontation between bird and monkey.

They seem so obscure that most don't notice them but they are the most poignant reminder that diversity is great and that all efforts to conserve them should be made.
